New Marvell HD Media Processor System-on-a-Chip Brings Award-Winning Qdeo Processing to Next-Generation Consumer Electronics Devices

High Performance, Low Power Marvell 88DE3010 SoC Combines Powerful Dual Sheeva CPU Cores with Qdeo Video Processing to offer Manufacturers a compelling solution for Digital Entertainment Devices

Santa Clara, California (September 16, 2009) – arvell (NASDAQ: MRVL), a leader in storage, communications, and consumer silicon solutions, today introduced the Marvell® 88DE3010 High Definition (HD) Media Processor System-on-a-Chip (SoC) to enable consumer electronics (CE) manufacturers to deliver a new generation of connected home entertainment products, including Blu-ray players, Digital Media Adapters (DMAs), internet-connected digital TVs, and some types of streaming HD Set-Top-Boxes (STBs).

The Marvell 88DE3010 HD Media Processor SoC includes two high-performance SheevaTM CPU cores running frequencies up to 1.2 GHz, dedicated hardware acceleration for multi-format video and audio decoding, a QdeoTM processing pipeline, and a comprehensive set of peripherals including dual SATA, dual USB, SDIO, SPI, PCI-Express, Ethernet, HDMI, and six Video DACs. The SoC supports simultaneous decoding of two compressed full-HD video, and audio streams, use of powerful networked media applications, rich graphics overlays and user interface, and rendering of quiet and immersive video free from noise and artifacts. And, with a low power dissipation design, the Marvell 88DE3010 is designed to enable manufacturers to produce slimmer, quieter, and greener CE products for the end user.

"We believe the Marvell 88DE3010 HD Media Processor offers a compelling value proposition for the connected digital entertainment market," said Dr. Nikhil Balram, Vice President and General Manager of the Digital Entertainment Business Unit, Communications and Consumer Business Group, at Marvell Semiconductor, Inc. "Customers have been asking for a highly integrated SoC that delivers robust performance for demanding multimedia applications, uncompromising image quality, and low power consumption, at an affordable price. We are happy to deliver the 88DE3010 SoC in response to these needs."

"The Marvell 88DE3010 HD Media Processor offers an amazing combination of high performance application processing, high quality video processing and high system integration using very low power – and at a low cost," said Reiji Asakura, vice chairman of the Society of Picture Quality Engineers in Japan. "I expect this unique SoC to enable very compelling next-generation consumer electronics products."

"The Blu-ray player/recorder market is growing very robustly despite the difficult economic times," said Paul O'Donovan, Principal Analyst for Gartner's Technology and Service Provider Research group. "We expect this market to grow from 10.7 million units this year to approximately 31.4 million units by 2013. The total market for consumer HD AV devices is expected to grow from a minimum of 170 million units this year to an estimated 291 million units by 2013. "

The Marvell 88DE3010 parts are sampling now. Pricing is available to customers upon request. A comprehensive evaluation platform that includes a BD2.0 Blu-ray software stack and rich networked media applications and complete reference designs for fast-time-to-market are available to customers.
