Marvell SOHO Secure Gateway Reference Design Delivers The Widest Selection of Software Platforms, Shortening Development Cycles

Link Street™ Reference Design Offers Advanced Security Capabilities, Eliminating Network Performance Bottlenecks and Reducing Overall System Cost

Sunnyvale, California (July 21, 2003) –

Marvell®   (NASDAQ: MRVL), a technology leader in the development of extreme broadband communications and storage solutions, today introduced broad software support on its new SOHO secure gateway reference design, shortening networking equipment manufacturers’ development cycles.  The Link Street™ 88E6318 reference design offers software support for multiple operating systems, including Microsoft Windows CE .NET, Monta Vista®  Linux® and Wind River®  VxWorks. ®

The Link Street 88E6318 reference design incorporates the Company’s 88E6318 secure gateway router chip, supporting circuitry with two mini PCI interfaces for Marvell 802.11 wireless and SATA based storage connectivity, a JTAG in-circuit emulator interface and five switched Fast Ethernet ports.  With a wide array of software platforms, networking equipment manufacturers have the flexibility in choosing the software support that best matches their software expertise.  The reference design includes the Application Programming Interface and performance reports, drivers for various peripherals, detailed documentation, user guides.  The reference design dramatically reduces the customer development cycle and speeds their product to market.

“In today’s competitive networking environment, the ability to choose from a variety of software platforms is essential for networking equipment manufacturers,” stated Ernie Bergstrom, Principal Analyst at Crystal Cube Consulting.  “Marvell is leading this strategy by providing multiple software platforms.  The flexibility they are offering enables OEMs to choose the software that best fits their application and also achieves the networking equipment optimal performance-to-price ratio.”

The Link Street reference design also enables security acceleration to be pervasive throughout the network, eliminating network performance bottlenecks and reducing overall system cost.  The security API for the NetGX™ co-processor allows developers to easily port encryption (IPSec), key exchange (IKE) and authentication protocols to utilize the capabilities of Marvell’s NetGX security accelerator.  The types of encryption supported are AES, DES and Triple DES.  The authentication algorithms include SHA1/MD5.

Link Street 88E6318 Gateway Router

The Link Street 88E6318 gateway router integrates a proven IPSec VPN security acceleration engine to secure sensitive network traffic with a high-level of network throughput.  The 88E6318 device attains high performance for SME routers: wire-speed bi-directional routing with NAT (simultaneous WAN-to-LAN and LAN-to-WAN), and wire speed ftp download performance.  A 64-bit MIPS processor for full-wire-speed packet routing powers the device.  In addition, the device integrates the Link Street 88E6063 QoS switching fabric, the Company's Fast Ethernet digital PHY technology with built-in Virtual Cable Tester™ diagnostics, and an on-chip PCI bus enabling the addition of external wireless LAN modules, all incorporated within a single system-on-a-chip.  With the integration of the NetGX security engine, the 88E6318 device provides performance improvements up to 6x relative to current SMB/SOHO security products.
