Santa Clara, California (November 13, 2012) – Marvell today announced that the Marvell® SMILE Plug has been named an International CES Innovations 2013 Design and Engineering Awards Honoree in the NEW! Tech For A Better World category.

The Marvell SMILE Plug is an innovative, easy-to-use, low-power cloud computer designed to enable the digital classroom –“Classroom 3.0” – a connected, secure and highly interactive learning environment that simplifies and speeds the deployment of technology to students worldwide. The SMILE Plug creates a secure micro-cloud that facilitates the delivery of educational content and applications to up to 60 students via a range of mobile devices, including smartphones and tablets. Powered by Marvell's high-performance, low-power ARMADA® 300 series System-on-a-Chip (SoC) and the company’s industry leading Avastar® 88W8764 wireless chip, the SMILE Plug turns traditional classrooms into social networked and media-integrated mobile learning environments, improving learning practices for students around the world, specifically in underprivileged communities. The SMILE Plug provides teachers with a platform to expand access to and utilization of new or existing educational content and the ability to control mobile devices within the classroom, resulting in overall better lesson planning and student evaluation.

“Marvell is very thankful to receive the prestigious CES Design and Engineering Awards Honoree recognition. Marvell has been a long-standing and passionate supporter of education and helping to build better and affordable technologies for the digital classroom. We are extremely proud of our team's innovation and contributions to this very meaningful cause to help improve our education systems.
