Marvell Announces Support for New Intel XSCALE Platform Family & UMPC Initiative

Company Leverages Power Management and Design Expertise to Deliver WLAN Support to New Mobile Market Segments

Santa Clara, California (March 8, 2006) – arvell (NASDAQ: MRVL), the leader in storage, communications and consumer silicon solutions, today announced  that the Company’s industry leading WLAN products have been optimized to work with Intel Corporations newest processor family (codenamed Monahans) based on third generation Intel XScale® architecture.  The Company will also full support the Intel Ultra Mobile PC (UMPC) initiative.  Both the Monahans platform family and the UMPC initiative were outlined earlier today during a keynote by Shmuel (Mooly) Eden, the Vice President and General Manager of the Intel Mobile Platforms Group, today at the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) in San Francisco.

Marvell WLAN solutions will be combined with Intel Monahans processors to enable new usage models across multiple target segments including: cellphones, PDAs, portable game devices and other embedded devices.  The Company’s WLAN solutions, particularly the Marvell 88W8686 will also offer full support for the Intel UMPC platform.  Perfectly suited for all mobile market segments, the latest generation Marvell WLAN offers the industry’s lowest total system power - drawing less than 400mW - and the smallest total system footprint – less than 50 mm2.

“The Monahans Platform family delivers high performance combined with extremely low power consumption,” said Mark Casey, general manager of Intel’s Applications Processor Business Unit.  “By combining Intel’s Monahans Platform family with Marvell WLAN technology we will enable exciting usage models for multiple market segments across a broad range of consumer devices.  And, the combination of Marvell WLAN technology with the Intel UMPC initiative will result in a new usage model for notebook PCs.”

“Marvell is thrilled to offer continued support of Intel’s Xscale architecture as well as the UMPC initiative,” said Dr. Paramesh Gopi, Vice President and General Manager of the Embedded and Emerging Business Unit, Communications and Consumer Business Group at Marvell.  “These platforms, introduced today at IDF, represent a radical change in media processing for mobile devices.  The Marvell 88W8686 will give UMPC OEMs the ability to dramatically enhance battery life over traditional notebook designs, while the compact size and ultra low-power of our WLAN solutions is a perfect match for the mobile consumer devices targeted by the Intel Monahans platform.”
