Marvell's 88LX3142 G.hn digital baseband processor and 88LX2718 G.hn analog front end power the Fiber-To-The-Home network for residents in Spain

Santa Clara, California (June 15, 2015) – Marvell (NASDAQ:MRVL), a worldwide leader in providing complete silicon solutions from mobile communications to storage, Internet of Things (IoT), cloud infrastructure, digital entertainment, in-home content delivery and Kinoma® software enabling the “Smart Life and Smart Lifestyle” - today announced that Jazztel, a global telecommunications operator offering broadband solutions for voice and data traffic, internet and mobile telephony to the residential and corporate markets in Spain, will install a Marvell powered G.hn networking solution from Comtrend, a leading global provider of advanced networking solutions, to accelerate the deployment of their Fiber-To-The-Home (FTTH) network. Comtrend’s latest solution integrates Marvell’s 88LX3142 G.hn digital baseband processor and 88LX2718 G.hn analog front end. Since announcing its first product with Marvell silicon back in 2012, Comtrend has developed a great expertise with G.hn technology and its use cases which contributed to its nomination as Bronze Winner in the prestigious Best in Biz Awards late 2014 for its PowerGrid series, a product line designed to deliver seamless video streaming in all topologies and minimizing interference in high-density environments. Marvell’s award-winning G.hn chipset was selected again for its ITU-T standards-compliant and HomeGrid Forum-certified technology.

“Marvell is excited to continue the collaboration with Comtrend and enable faster market adoption of G.hn technology for a wide range of applications,” said Philip Poulidis, Vice President and General Manager, Wireless and Internet of Things Business Units at Marvell. “Together, our complete solution delivers best-in-class performance throughout users’ connected homes. We appreciate our long lasting partnership with Comtrend and look forward to developing innovative G.hn technology to enable the “Smart Life and Smart Lifestyle.”

“Our decision to deploy Comtrend’s Marvell-powered PowerGrid-9070 G.hn adapters is a strategic one that helps bridge the connection between the Optical Network Terminal (ONT) and the home gateway in our users’ homes, accelerating high-speed FTTH broadband network deployment,” said Antonio Montero, Network Director of Jazztel. “Jazztel has the second largest FTTH network in Spain, with more than 3.7M FTTH homes installed and we are targeting 5M by end of 2015. The ease of installation and the superiority of performance offered by Comtrend’s G.hn adapters are important factors for our selection of the technology.”

“After working with Marvell for many years, Comtrend has developed a strong confidence in Marvell’s G.hn solutions and we have launched a complete portfolio of products powered by Marvell G.hn silicon, from Coax Ethernet adapters to Phoneline Ethernet bridges, from PoE adapters with MIMO to Powerline Wi-Fi extenders, all eliminating the need for extra wiring,” said John Hsieh Marketing Director of Comtrend. “We are well prepared to address any service provider´s requirements, from wireline to wireless and hybrid networking, and we are proud to be selected by Jazztel to be part of their FTTH deployment in Spain.”

The Comtrend PowerGrid 9070, ITU-T G.hn standards compliant Powerline Ethernet Adapter with EU pass-through socket and G.hn Multiple Input/Multiple output (MIMO), provides the best quality data transmission for a truly high-speed connected home experience. It allows Jazztel’s subscribers to extend a local area network via existing power lines, eliminating the need for extra wiring between the ONT and the home gateway. Installation is quick and easy as the PowerGrid 9070 comes with plug-and-play technology. The PowerGrid 9070 is pre-configured allowing easy installation and it features secure end-to-end encryption algorithms for safeguarding the network integrity. It also supports advanced energy-saving features based on Ethernet link activity, with automatic standby mode.
