Marvell Raises the Bar on the Gigabit Ethernet Market with New Digital Office GbE Switch

Integrated GbE Switching Platform Powers the Digital Office with Application Awareness and Ease of Use

Las Vegas, Nevada (May 22, 2007) – arvell (NASDAQ: MRVL), the leader in storage, communications and consumer silicon solutions, today announced the availability of its digital office Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) switch, featuring auto-discovery and auto-configuration for small-to-medium sized business (SMB) IP appliances. The proliferation of digital appliances and the growth of multimedia and productivity-based applications in the SMB demand a higher level of automation. The Marvell® digital office GbE switch addresses this demand by enabling wider deployment of GbE on the desktop by intelligently interconnecting and managing wireless access points (WAPs), VoIP terminals, network attached storage (NAS) devices, and IP cameras. This next-generation GbE switch is currently on display at Marvell’s booth #1848 at Interop Las Vegas 2007, from May 22–25.

The Marvell digital office GbE switching reference system features enhanced processing power through a high-performance Marvell 333MHz CPU, in addition to a next-generation GbE PHY—the Marvell 88E1240—with power-reduced ports and power saving modes. The Marvell switching platform enables OEMs to go rapidly to market with a fan-less, miniature enclosure design and rich automation suite. The cutting-edge performance with space and thermal optimized consumer-leveraged technologies changes the landscape of networking through new high processing capabilities at disruptive entry-level cost points.

“Our customers are faced with the challenge of enhancing their GbE switched digital office infrastructure with automation tools, while driving power consumption and costs down,” said Simon Milner, vice president and general manager, Enterprise Business Unit, Communications and Consumer Business Group at Marvell. “With the introduction of a new breed of high-performance switch, CPU and lower power PHY, we are accelerating innovation in the digital office.”

The Marvell digital office GbE switch platform supports a comprehensive application toolkit for digital office automation, including the IEEE Link Layer Discovery Protocol (LLDP) and Link Layer Topology Discovery Protocol (LLTP). Featuring a simplified, feature-rich Web interface, these tools allow businesses to connect, detect, present, and track their IP appliances; further accelerating office automation and circumventing the need for costly IT resources. The application toolkit enables rapid ODM productization with new system performance and extensibility for maximum OEM end product differentiation.
